Junior Mixed Martial Arts (Freestyle Jujitsu) is a combination of several arts. The best of Kickboxing, Judo, Wrestling and Jujitsu. This class is adpated to the training of the junior athlete. As with all endeavours aimed at children, it is important to have structure and to instil discipline whilst maintaining their enjoyment. For this reason, the children will wear a traditional Gi (suit) and be graded to gauge their progression. The grading syllabus is in Freestyle Jujitsu and the belts are on offer to give students a goal and monitor their growth.
The class is run in a safe and controlled manner and there are always two coaches on the mat to assist the students and to keep a watchful eye on their safety during training. As mentioned, the class is a blending of techniques and ideas from various arts. The students will learn to strike and grapple with equal skill covering all ranges. Submission holds (armlocks etc.) are included and the student is made aware of the significance of the techniques, again for safety awareness.
The class can benefit in many ways including keeping your child physically active in a fun and interesting way, combatting the more sedentary nature of today’s society. They will also develop skills that can be used in competition or self defence. There are mental benefits including discipline, self control and determination.
The classes are for children aged 8+.
