Caged Steel Gym - Gracie Jiu Jitsu

Whilst other Brazilian Jiu Jitsu styles became more sport-orientated and tapered towards competition, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu prides itself on the techniques that would work in a real fight – the main premise behind the art being, “to enable practitioners to defeat an all-out attack from a larger and more athletic opponent.”

With this fundamental notion, the system does not focus on the point-scoring and sportive aspects of BJJ but the real-world applications that could also save yourself on the street as well as enable you to be successful in competition. There are thousands of similarities between the closely related codes, but ‘street-only’ moves are still a part of GJJ. For over eighty years the Gracie family have tested and proven the effectiveness of their art against others, both on the street and in competition.

Coach Sacha King is Europe’s only officially certified pure Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instructor. With a purple belt in GJJ, a 2nd dan in Traditional Jiu-Jitsu and a 1st Kyu in Judo, King’s emphasis will be on:

  • Street Applicable Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
  • Gi grappling with striking in mind
  • BJJ for MMA
  • Perfect Self Defence

Their is a belt grading system running from white to black. Students will progress by showing their efficiency, accuracy and reflexes in the key techniques.

The class is perfect for all ages, abilities and backgrounds as Gracie Jiu Jitsu emphasises the use of proper technique, leverage and body movements, as opposed to brute strength, to make them effective in combat.
